Why Dixieland sees bat work

Dixieland is one of Lakeland's older residential districts, developed largely during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The housing stock is wood framed with deep eaves, and after a century of settlement the junction between soffit and roof line has opened up on many of these homes.

That produces exactly the long continuous eave gap that a colony can use, and it is generally not visible from the ground or obvious from inside the attic.

What that means for the work

On a period property the sealing has to hold without damaging original fabric, which rules out the fastest and crudest approaches. The eave is closed along its full run rather than patched at the point where droppings were noticed, because the active opening is rarely the only one.
